The Beginning

ARUDECS is a non-profit organization empowering marginalized communities in Tamil Nadu through sustainable development, rights-based advocacy, and community self-reliance. Since 1989, we have worked alongside Adivasi, Dalit, and farming communities—especially the Paliyan tribes—to ensure access to justice, resources, and lasting opportunities. Together, we are building stronger, more equitable communities for the future.

What We Aim to Achieve

By strengthening community institutions and rights-based governance mechanisms, ARUDECS aims to improve access to legal entitlements, public services, and sustainable livelihood opportunities for Adivasi, Dalit, marginal farming communities, and the Paliyan tribes in Theni District, Tamil Nadu, through structured capacity-building, advocacy, and institutional collaboration on an ongoing, multi-year basis.

The Community Education Support Programme of ARUDECS empowers tribal and marginalized children with essential learning skills to succeed in mainstream education while strengthening pride in their cultural identity. The initiative focuses on creating inclusive, child-friendly learning spaces that encourage curiosity, confidence, and continuity in education.

The objective of the programme is to improve school enrolment, promote girls’ education, reduce dropout rates, and enhance the quality of primary education through community-based remedial learning centres. The programme fosters joyful and participatory learning environments for children from Adivasi and marginal farming communities. In 2022, the programme was implemented across multiple tribal villages in Bodinayakanur and Periyakulam Taluks of Theni District, Tamil Nadu.
